This week, I had an email from a subscriber demotivated after low earnings in their first few months with Amazon KDP.

It can be easy to feel disheartened when your business doesn't immediately take off.

Especially for online businesses, where astronomical growth figures from influencers can make your humble beginnings seem insignificant.

However, it's essential to remember that every success story began with a single step. The importance of starting right and building a solid foundation cannot be overstated.

I see many beginners start an online business only to give up after 1-3 months as they didn't make a sale or start making thousands a month.

The reality is stepping out and starting any business is hard and you shouldn't compare your day 1 to anyone else's. There are no guarantees in life and just because online gurus make everything look easy, it doesn’t mean that it actually is.

The Importance of Solid Foundations

Imagine constructing a building. Would you start with the top floor, or would you first lay a strong foundation? The same principle applies to business. Before scaling heights, it's crucial to ensure that the foundation is rock solid. This includes:

• Understanding the Basics: Grasping the fundamentals of your business niche will arm you with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions.

• Taking Consistent Action: Regular, incremental efforts can yield substantial results over time. It's the small steps that lead to significant leaps.

• Seeking the Right Advice: Surrounding yourself with mentors or individuals who've walked the path can provide invaluable insights and shortcuts to success.

The Power of Persistence

Your initial months starting an online business might not be as fruitful as you'd hoped for. I didn’t make $100 in my first 3 months of Amazon KDP but I didn’t stop there.

Instead of being fixated on immediate results, the focus was on learning, improving, and getting advice from the right sources.

By being persistent and reminding yourself of the initial days, it's easier to appreciate the journey and recognize growth.

Tracking Progress and Celebrating Wins

To maintain motivation, focus on your own growth, it's helpful to keep a record of your journey. This can be in the form of a diary, a spreadsheet, or even pictures.

By documenting your improvements, strategies, and wins, you can visualize your progress. This not only serves as a morale booster but also as a learning tool for the future.

Compounding Returns

Small, consistent investments grow exponentially over time. The same principle applies to knowledge and skills. The learnings and improvements you make early on can compound, leading to substantial results in the future. It's about the long game.

Final Thoughts

Starting a business is a marathon, not a sprint. While it's tempting to seek quick results and compare our journey with others, it's vital to remember that every big success had humble beginnings.

Don’t be controlled by the outcomes or other’s success, focus on your growth and lay the right foundations.
