Constant Improvement
One of the things I’ve noticed that separates successful people from others is the pursuit of constant improvement. It can be easy to accept success or failure but those that keep pushing consistently over long periods of time will see continued success.
I learnt about the concept of ‘Kaizen’ when I started my business degree years ago and it completely changed my outlook. ‘Kaizen’ is a Japanese term meaning "change for better," embodies the philosophy of continuous improvement and is a vital principle in today's fast-evolving technological landscape.
In the context of online businesses, it's not just about staying competitive; it's about cultivating a culture where incremental improvements are regularly made to processes, products, or services. This approach doesn't just increase efficiency and profitability; it encourages a mindset of constant growth and adaptability.
Using this approach in my online businesses, I focus on 1% improvements each day, letting go of the big picture and factors that I can’t control. I’m constantly trying to learn about advancements in AI and technology to benefit my business and I share this with my audience.
We are in an era where change is the only constant but embracing the principles of Kaizen ensures that you are well-positioned to thrive amidst the continuous waves of innovation and transformation.
There is always space for improvement, no matter how long you've been in the business.

He Makes Over $6k With High Content Books
For this week’s newsletter interview, I am delighted to welcome Ken. Ken is a self-publishing powerhouse, turning his dream of passive income into reality through Amazon KDP. With a start in mid-2021, he diligently studied, refined, and consistently built his brand around high-content books, focusing on quality over quantity.
Let’s delve into his inspiring journey.
1. Can you share your journey to becoming a successful book publisher with Amazon KDP?
I started Amazon KDP mid 2021, studied all the resources I could find and started right away with high content books. My first book was pretty bad but I slowly refined it, even after publishing and did the same for each book i made. I have 2 main niches but my first niche I ended up publishing a bundle of the 3 books I had made, which took off and continues to do super well up until this point. I then took all the knowledge I learned from building that brand and put it into a new niche I had found which had great numbers and was something I was more passionate about. This niche has success very quickly and solidified the effectiveness of my process.
2. Why have you been able to have success faster than most self-published authors and earn a full-time income?
I wouldn't say I've had “fast” success. Its taken me about 2 years to get to this point, but I just focused on staying consistent, learning as much as I could, and not giving up to easily.
I also worked smarter not harder. Its not about how many books you can publish but the quality of the keyword and the books your publishing in that keyword. A majority of my income comes from only 2 books. This is why I love high-content publishing. Its slower, more intentional and alot more lucrative.
3. What are the costs involved in a high-content book and why should self-publishers consider high-content books?
The biggest cost would be getting the book written, which can be anywhere from $600-1200, But most of the other elements can be quite inexpensive. I think high-content books bring in a lot more profit and if done correctly you can make anywhere from $500-3000/month per book guaranteed (once you get the feel for it). I just think high content books create a solid and stable business that continues to grow over time are just a higher value product.
4. How do you hire writers for your books?
1. Services like the urban writers or hot ghost writer. Super simple and not much to it, just purchase a package. However, you do not have much control over the writer you get. I personally use option 2, which is: Upwork
2. Upwork. I simply post a detailed job about what I'm looking for, then I will go around and find writers on Upwork that look promising and invite them to apply. After a week or two I will pick my top 3-5 candidates, and see if they'd like to hop on a quick call just to say hello (so you know they are who they say they are) and then if that goes well I get them to do a writing test. (Which is the introduction to the book). Whoever has a good vibe and writes the best introduction is the person I will hire. This is an easy way to vet your writers to ensure you get someone professional.
5. Can you share your process for identifying and understanding your target audience? How do you ensure your content resonates with them?
After I find a keyword, ill do quite a bit of research studying other books and there reviews, What people liked, what they didnt, and from there I start with a rough book structure and add in everything the potential reader would want from the book.
Sometimes ill even buy the best-reviewed competitor and read the book and see how it is structured and how mine can be more useful. I also look at the readers end result and find the most efficient way to take them from point A to point B. I essentially just find a topic, and study anything and everything about that topic and become as much of an expert in it as I can.
6. What was your biggest challenge while publishing on Amazon KDP, and how did you overcome it?
Continuing to persevere when the beginners “high” went away and I still hadnt had the success I knew I could have. I continued to focus on the end result and my inevitable dream which was passive income, and that led me to stay consistent and continue to invest and publish even if it seemed like a dead end.
7. What advice do you have for aspiring self-publishers looking for success with Amazon KDP?
Spend the extra time and effort to actually create quality books and dont be afraid to invest in them. 90% of self publishers are just pumping books out one after the other and a little bit of extra effort completely separates you from them. I also think people quit to easily. Every online business works, so if this is the one you like, stick to it, stay consistent, and dont look back. Success is inevitable.
8. Do you have any other successful side hustles?
I would say my youtube channel is the my second side hustle that has been growing fast and I have been able to book some Amazon KDP consulting calls from it.
9. What are your future plans and goals for your publishing career on Amazon KDP?
Right now I want to continue building my youtube channel and educate other people on how to become successful self-publishers. I really enjoy it and I think its important to diversify your income so im not just relying on my Amazon account which can be volatile.
This is another reason I like high-content books, theres potential to build an audience in a given niche and eventually sell them courses, consulting or anything else regarding the niche. Once I get used to this workflow Ill go back to creating high-content books and see how large of a brand I can build.

Niche Of The Week - High Content Books
We will continue our theme from the interview covering high-content books in this week’s niche of the week. For those that may not understand what a high content book is, it includes a significant number of written text, images or artwork. This can include textbooks, novels, biographies and cookbooks
There are several benefits to creating high content books:
Value for Readers: High-content books provide substantial information, insights, and often expert knowledge on a subject, delivering significant value to readers.
Potential for Higher Pricing: Because high-content books offer more value, they can often be priced higher than shorter or less in-depth works. This can translate to higher profits for the author or publisher.
Longer Shelf Life: Quality content that is well-researched and thoroughly written tends to have a longer shelf life. While trends come and go, substantial works may continue to be relevant and valuable to readers for years.
Customer Loyalty: Readers who find great value in a high-content book are likely to return to the same author or publisher for more information in the future. This can foster a loyal customer base.
Multiple Income Streams: A high-content book can also be made into an ebook, hardcover, or audiobook, they can also create opportunities for spin-off products like courses, consulting services, speaking engagements, or even a series of related books.
I asked Ken to detail his keyword research process to help you get started with your own high-content book.
I do it a little differently than most. I dont trust tools to tell me if a keyword is good or not, I use my eyes. I like to use bookbeam aswell just because you can see the BSR ranking on the Amazon pages and you can actually check the BSR history of books. This allows you to check the validity of books long term so you can see if the niche is actually good and isnt just having a good day. My process is simple, but hard to master.
I simply ask myself three questions:
Can I rank on page 1?
If i do rank on page 1, is there enough demand for me to actually make sales?
If I do rank on page 1, can I actually compete with the books there.
Can I rank on page 1?
Its usually the search results and number of authority figures there are that determine this. I aim for under 10,000, and under 5 books with over 500 reviews.
If i do rank on page 1, is there enough demand for me to actually make sales?
This is determined by finding some proof. Proof would be 3+ books with under 150 reviews, making consistent sales (this is where I check the BSR history. I look for 50,000 or less). This tells me if they're selling, I should too if I make a good book.
If I do rank on page 1, can I actually compete with the books there?
This is a mixture of fewer books with 500+ reviews, and some proof books which have 150 or less but making sales. You basically ask yourself If you make a good book with around 20-50 reviews will it rank on page 1 and make sales? If page one has too much competition or too many books with lots of reviews, you probably won’t.
Once you get the feel for it finding keywords is easy. I’ll know within 60 seconds if a keyword is good or not.
This shows Ken’s full process for Amazon KDP. He shows how he made $4k with 1 high content book in 2 months.
Tool Of The Week- TinEye
TinEye is a reverse image search engine. It allows users to search the web for other instances of a specific image by uploading the image file or providing its URL. TinEye uses image recognition technology to create a unique digital fingerprint of the image, and then compares this fingerprint to the images in its database.
TinEye can be particularly useful when dealing with images created by artificial intelligence or sourced from websites like Creative Fabrica and Creative Market for several reasons.
Verification of Originality: If you are using an image created by AI or purchased from a marketplace, you can use TinEye to verify that the image hasn't been used elsewhere in a way that violates its license. This helps ensure that you have the proper rights to use the image in your publication.
Avoiding Copyright Infringement: Using an image without proper licensing can lead to legal issues, including copyright infringement. By using TinEye, you can check if an image has been illegally sourced or reproduced, ensuring that you are using legitimate and legal copies of the image.
Tracking Image Usage: If you are a creator who has made images available through platforms like Creative Fabrica, you may want to monitor how your images are being used. Tools like TinEye allow you to see where and how your images are being used online, ensuring that they are not being used in unauthorized or inappropriate ways.
How To Use TinEye
TinEye is very easy to use, all you need to do is upload your image to the website and it will search to find where and how your images are being used online. If you have 0 matches then you can be sure your image is safe.
