Don’t Get Discouraged Where You Are

This month, I've been hitting some amazing numbers in my KDP business.

But I know that seeing everyone's big success stories in December can be a bit overwhelming, especially if you're just starting out.

It can make you feel like you're not doing enough, but I've been there too. It takes time to build up to those big numbers.

That's why in this newsletter, I'm going to share the real, humble beginnings of my own side hustles. You'll see it's not all instant success and that's okay.

I’ll also tell you about Amin, who started from scratch and recently crossed over $250k with Amazon KDP.

You will also find a study on a book that makes $2220 a month, showing that there's still plenty of room for success with KDP.

It’s all about sticking with it, even when the numbers aren't what you hoped for just yet.

Interview With Royalty Wizard - Making Over $250k With Amazon KDP

I am delighted to welcome Amin (Royalty Wizard) for our second Newsletter interview, who has recently crossed an impressive milestone of over $250k in earnings through Amazon KDP.

As we step into 2024, Amin shares his insights and future goals, reflecting on his successful journey in the world of self-publishing.

  1. As we move into 2024, what are your primary goals for your Amazon KDP business, and how do they differ from your past objectives?

My main goal for 2024 is to of course continue publishing books. I believe that regardless of whatever success you see, it’s important to remain active in this business.

A key difference for 2024 will be that my designer (who I recently hired) will create my covers and interiors. This will free up time for me to focus on research and other areas of my KDP business.

  1. You recently crossed over  $250k with your KDP business, reflecting on your journey so far, which books have sold best for you and what would you say have been your most valuable lessons learned?

I found my success mainly through publishing logbooks and journals. Over the years, I’ve managed to rank many of them high up in the searches and get them to become best-sellers in their niches. This is what's helped me reach $250k.

A valuable lesson I have learnt over the years is that once you find a type of book that works for you, then to keep publishing more of them. Often, this may mean avoiding the temptations of other types of books.

  1. In our last interview, you mentioned a desire to explore other types of books. Can you elaborate on what genres or formats you are considering and why?

Although I have expressed my desire to try out other types of books, I haven’t got round to it yet. In the last 12-18 months or so I realised that the logbook and journal niches have started to become more and more competitive.

For this reason I plan to explore other types of books such as colouring and activity books and create unique books.

  1. How do you plan to use AI in your publishing process, and what potential benefits or challenges do you foresee?

I find the use of AI very helpful in the publishing process of books. I mainly use ChatGP, that's for help with research, keywords, descriptions etc.

I haven’t got around to using AI-generated graphics and images for my book designs yet, but I realise their huge potential and will definitely be exploring them further in 2024.

  1. Given the increased competition in KDP, what advice would you give to new authors to stand out in 2024?

For new authors, I think it will be important to strike a balance between quantity and quality. Quantity to gain the invaluable experience of learning to create books and improving, and quality to stand apart from the competition.

KDP has become more competitive now and one thing I would advise is to tryto create books that have better covers and interiors than the existing ones inthe niches. This will greatly increase the chances of success with books.

  1. As your business grows, how do you plan to manage your time between KDP, your YouTube channel, and personal commitments?

A daily schedule for what I’ll be working on and at what times helps me get things done and manage my time. Within my daily schedule, I have time allocated for KDP, YouTube and just learning in general to improve on these businesses.

I also have time set aside for personal commitments. For the most part, I manage to stick to my schedule, but life isn’t perfect and sometimes things come in the way.

  1. Can you share a recent challenge you faced in your KDP business and how you overcame it?

A daily schedule for what I’ll be working on and at what times helps me get things done and manage my time. Within my daily schedule, I have time allocated for KDP, YouTube and just learning in general to improve on these businesses.

I also have time set aside for personal commitments. For the most part, I manage to stick to my schedule, but life isn’t perfect and sometimes things come in the way.

  1.  What are some of the best tools and software you recommend for your KDP business?

Most of the best tools and ones I recommend are free:

-AMZ Search Expander for finding keywords

-DS Amazon Quick View for key data of books and to save time

-Helium 10 Chrome extension for sales data and historical BSR graph

In addition to these free tools, I recommend all authors to have a subscription to a website where they can download graphics and fonts to use for their books. Creative Fabrica I would say is the best option and value for money. Any other tools, free or paid, are in my opinion not needed and are just complementary to KDP.

  1. This Newsletter is all about building a consistent income online, do you have any advice about how to make KDP a consistent income stream each month?

One thing KDP isn’t is a get-rich-quick scheme. To generate consistent income, it will require consistent publishing of books and also patience. Many people publish a handful of books and expect quick results.

This is unlikely to happen, and you will have to be active in publishing and persevere to see consistent results. It's definitely possible and you want to publish in at least 7-10 or more niches each month.

10. Are there any other side hustles or business ventures you are considering for 2024 to complement your KDP income?

YouTube, affiliate marketing, and now Medium complement my KDP income. I’m quite far from where I want to be with these side hustles, so I plan to focus my time and energy in 2024 to build these up. I highly doubt I'll entertain the idea of any other income sources as this will scatter my mind among too many things and in the end I won’t be able to achieve anything.

11.   Where do you see your publishing career and the Royalty Wizard brand in the next five years, and what steps are you taking to achieve that vision?

I have two goals, and these are not limited to 5 or 10 years. Firstly to become an expert in low-content publishing and to create amazon books.

Second, to build the best KDP-related YouTube channel that provides immense value to viewers. I think it’s crucial for me to stay on top of my game in KDP, as if this fails then YouTube, affiliate marketing and everything else falls with it.
