I Wish I Knew This Before I Started Making Money Online!

Making money online has become increasingly popular and accessible in recent years. I started my journey in 2020 and although there have been many challenges, it’s one of the best decisions I ever made.

While there are numerous success stories, there's also a learning curve involved. Here are five lessons I feel many wish they knew before venturing into the online money-making world:

1. The Importance of a Solid Foundation

Diving headfirst into an online business can be tempting, especially with all the success stories you hear, I was very tempted to quit my 9-5 and jump into my side hustle. However, don't rush to quit your job and rely on this new income stream:

  • Reduce Early Pressures: When you have a consistent source of income, such as a 9-5 job, it eases the pressure of needing immediate success online. This allows you to make decisions with a clear mind, without the stress of needing quick returns.

  • Invest in Your Online Venture: Using a portion of your stable income to fund and grow your online business can be a smart strategy. For example, I invested some of my 9-5 income into my KDP business but it's much easier to make these investments when you aren't solely relying on your online income.

2. Not Everything That Glitters is Gold

There's no shortage of online courses, webinars, and "gurus" promising quick riches. While some offer valuable insights:

  • Beware of Scams: Unfortunately, not every money-making promise is genuine. It's essential to conduct thorough research before investing in any course or program. You can find most information online for free.

  • Success Takes Time: Overnight success is the exception, not the rule. Building a profitable online business usually takes time, effort, and persistence.

3. Diversify Your Income Streams

Relying on a single income source can be risky, once you have found success and achieved the income you desire, don’t keep all your eggs in one basket. Platforms and algorithms change, which can impact earnings:

  • Spread the Risk: Having multiple streams of income ensures that if one falters, others can compensate.

  • Adaptability: Being open to different income avenues allows you to adapt to changing online landscapes.

4. Building a Personal Brand is Key

Your personal brand is what sets you apart:

  • Trust and Recognition: A strong personal brand can turn your audience into loyal customers and help in word-of-mouth marketing.

  • Networking: Your personal brand isn't just for customers; it can also open doors to partnerships, collaborations, and other business opportunities.

5. The Importance of Continuous Learning

The digital landscape evolves rapidly:

  • Stay Updated: What worked a year ago might not work now. Continuous learning helps you adapt to the latest trends and technologies.

  • Invest in Yourself: This could be in the form of courses, books, or seminars. Prioritize learning as an ongoing business expense.

In Conclusion

While making money online offers numerous opportunities, it also comes with its challenges. Being informed, prepared, and adaptable can make the journey smoother and more rewarding.

KDP Niche Of The Week - Log Book

A log book is a record of events, observations, or other pieces of information arranged by date.

Log books are used across various professions, from sailors noting the ship's progress to scientists recording their experiments.

Why Are Log Books Popular All Year Round?

Log books do well throughout the year because:

  1. Versatility: They serve numerous purposes – from professional to personal. For instance, fitness enthusiasts might use them to track workouts, while chefs might log recipes.

  2. Gifts: They make excellent gifts, especially when personalized.

  3. New Year Resolutions: At the start of the year, many use log books to help stick to their resolutions.

One log book made me over $1k last month and it has been a consistent seller since I created it. This book took me less than 10 minutes to create.

Creating Your Own Log Book

1. Research on Amazon

Before starting with the design, it's wise to do a bit of market research:

  • Search for existing log books on Amazon. This gives you an idea of what's already out there, allowing you to identify gaps or unique selling points.

  • Look at the best-sellers and customer reviews. Understand what people like and dislike.

  • Find log book niches with low search results, low BSRs and make sure recent log books are selling.

2. Use Canva or Creative Fabrica for Templates

Both Canva and Creative Fabrica offer a range of log book templates that can be customized to suit your needs:

  • Canva: This graphic design platform offers free and premium templates. You can easily edit the templates, add elements, and customize the layout. Visit the Canva website, select a template that suits your needs, and start editing.

  • Creative Fabrica: Known for its design resources, Creative Fabrica offers book interior templates, especially for platforms like Amazon KDP. Download a suitable template and make the necessary changes.

3. Create the Interior Design

Once you've got the template, focus on the interior:

  • Layout: Ensure there's enough space for people to write comfortably. Remember, function is key for log books.

  • Headers/Footers: Decide if you want date headers, sections for notes, or other specific fields.

  • Instructions: If necessary, include a brief instruction or introduction page.

4. Upload to Amazon KDP

Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) allows you to self-publish your log books:

  • Follow the platform's guidelines to upload your book interior and cover.

  • Choose the right category, set a competitive price, and publish.

In Conclusion

Creating a log book is a straightforward process with the right tools and a bit of research. Remember to keep the end-user in mind when designing, ensuring it's both functional and appealing.

Whether you're aiming to address a niche market or cater to a broader audience, add your unique touch can make your log book stand out.
